President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Brussels

Queen Mathilde of the Belgians, German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, King Philippe  and Elke Büdenbender.

Brussels, 15-16 June 2017: German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his spouse Elke Büdenbender were in Brussels for multilateral meetings with NATO and EU officials. Already on the evening of their arrival they were guests of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

The following day President Steinmeier paid a visit to the EU Council President Donal Tusk. This was his second visit to an EU institution after his allocution during a plenary session of the European Parliament.

Main topics during the conversation with Tusk were the path to resolve the crisis left behind by the ongoing Brexit negotiations, trans-Atlantic relations as well as the elections in France, and their implications for the EU.

In the meantime his wife paid a visit to the integration centre Foyer in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean accompanied by German Ambassador to Belgium, Rüdiger Lüdeking

A luncheon was hosted by Their Majesties the King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of the Belgians in honour of the German Presidential Couple at Laeken Castle to finish up his visit to Brussels.
